Jamaica inflicted NYC Haiti their first loss of the 2017 FGSL International Championship, blanking them 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Old Boys and Girls high school.

The Reggae Boyz netted in the 49th and in the 61st minute and limited the Haitians to only three shots on target.

Les Grenadiers drop to fifth place in the standings after this loss.

Jamaica dominated the first half as they tested Haiti keeper Frandy Montrevil three times when Haiti didn't record a single shot.

Haiti's opponents first shot on target was a long range effort in the ninth minute, which Montrevil stopped with a routine save.

The Reggae Boyz fired another shot from distance a minute later but straight at Montrevil's hand again. Jamaica attempted to score once more in the 12th minute when one of their attackers sprinted alone in the box on a counter. Montrevil charged out of his line and was able to get a strong hand on the attacker's shot.

17-year-old Bern Sanon took Haiti's first shot of the game three minutes inside the second half as he whipped a strike from outside the box, that drew an easy save from the Jamaican keeper.

NYC Haiti substitute Yvener Guerrier missed a crucial scoring opportunity in the 37th minute. Gregory Clena sent Guerrier on goal with a neat pass in the box but the forward went off balance as he was dribbling sideways and was unable to unleash a shot.

Guerrier had another opportunity to score when a Jamaican center back misheaded Reginald Breson's long ball, hitting it backward . Guerrier sprinted to the ball before whamming an uncontested shot low and wide from outside the 18 in the 43rd minute.

Guerrier had yet another look at goal six minutes later. Clifford "Kly" Augustin tackled the Jamaican left back before finding the Haitian forward with a low cross. Guerrier didn't make the most out of the scoring opportunity as a steered a low shot at the Jamaican keeper.

The Reggae Boyz netted the same minute with an exquisite long strike from about 20 yards out. Keeper Montrevil dove on his left but was only able to get a fingertip on the ball.

Jamaica doubled their lead in the 61st minute when their right winger sprinted down the pitch on a counter before delivering a low cross to his side's number 10, who took a touch before rolling the ball in the bottom left corner of the net.

Players' afterthoughts

Defensive midfielder Schneider Charles:

Former FICA player Schneider Charles was heartbroken by NYC Haiti's first loss of the season.

"It hurts because when I'm playing soccer I play to win, when you can't win you tie," Charles said.

The midfielder expressed that the team's missed goalscoring opportunities is what hurt them in the end.

"The team was really good defensively but we missed a lot of goals," Charles said. "I think we're going to improve on that."

"Improvement starts first with the players' desire for it," the 19-year-old said. "The biggest part is the player's desire for improvement then after that when we get on the field we do the simplest thing."

Three key notes

Non-winning streak alongside a scoring drought: NYC Haiti is on a two-game non-winning run, in which they haven't scored a goal. They drew with St. Lucia 0-0 in their last match.

First match conceding goals: Jamaica was the first team that scored on Haiti in the tournament. Les Grenadiers previously defeated Nigeria 2-0 and drew with St. Lucia 0-0.

Substitute Yvener Guerrier: Although he came in as a substitute in the second half, Guerrier took the most shots for Haiti, tallying four strikes, of which he missed two golden scoring opportunities.
