Game Report

Guyana stunned NYC Haiti with a 6-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon at Old Boys and Girls high school in the International FGSL.

Haiti played without four of the starters from their previous game: defender and captain Rolin Andre, Waldo Vernet, Geraldy Joseph and Mimi. And starting left back Reginald Breson subbed in the game in the second half.

Guyana scored five of their six goals from counter attacks. Yvener Guerrier netted Les Grenadiers' consolation goal in the 52nd minute after their opponents had already scored four goals.

Haiti finished the game with 10 men as Williams "Afrika" Dorelian picked up a red card for stopping a goal scoring opportunity 12 minutes inside the second half.

Although the Haitian immigrants ended up losing the match, they held more possession of the ball in the opening 25 minutes and had a couple of close scoring opportunities. One in the 16th minute when Jean-Ismael Voltaire headed Ronald Leandre's free-kick inches past the left post.

The FGSL International champions almost scored the first goal of the encounter again 10 minutes later as Guerrier controlled Evans Jean's through ball before faking a shot and steering a low strike to the left corner of the net, forcing Guyana's keeper to make his first save of the game.

However it was Guyana that netted the opener with a swift counter attack past Haiti's high backline. The Guyanese scored again the following minute after Voltaire gave the ball away in the defense.

Guyana came red hot out of the break and scored two more goals eight and nine minutes inside the second half through similar counter attacks past an empty Haitian defense.

Dorelian was issued a red card two minutes later for stopping a goal scoring opportunity by clipping a Guyanese forward from the back in the midfield.

Guerrier netted Haiti's lone goal in the 52nd minute. The forward hit a well strucked shot to the bottom left corner of the net past Guyana's keeper after collecting Francois Kimberly's short pass.

Guyana netted two more goals in the 55th and the 61st minute. Les Grenadiers drop from second to fourth place after this loss.
